Communication Skills… Good vs. Great

by admin on August 8, 2011

What’s the difference between good communication skills and great communication skills?

Let me illustrate this with a quote from the greatest hockey player of all time, Wayne Gretzky. A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.Consistently Gretsky arrived at the place where he expected the puck to be and scored record-breaking 200 points in four separate seasons. Expectation with opportunity and action created a Hall of Fame inductee.

Gretsky’s quote illustrates one of the most important business communication skills… focusing on your desired outcome. Ask yourself, “Is my predominant communication with employees and customers about where the puck is, or where the puck needs to be in order to be successful?” That subtle shift in focus is an important communication skill to develop… and will have dramatic results… more sales… more revenue… more happy customers!  - R.
